PUSH or PULL Your Way to Success

Do you push or pull your employees? Let me explain what I mean by describing “pushers” and “pullers”.

Pushers use deadlines and required benchmarks to motivate employees. Pushers are vocal and provide feedback, but most often when things aren’t going well. They also tend to be very reactive when handling situations. Employees avoid interaction with Pushers as it usually means they have done something wrong. Pushers often give their employees the impression that their own success is more important than that of the company. This approach makes employees think that the bottom-line is all that matters.

Staffing at the Speed of Light: Are you Keeping Up?

By now you’ve seen the Ozzy Osbourne/Justin Beiber commercial originally aired during this month’s Super Bowl. Best Buy’s premise of “Technology moves fast. Don’t get left behind” depicts an aged Ozzy trying to get used to the “now” 4G technology rapidly adapting to an advanced 6G service. Trying his best, but still clearly lost, he remarks, “How many bloody Gs are there?” As humorous as this 30 second bit is, it’s an all-too-real glimpse of the future awaiting many of us. For some, that future is already here.

Get Up and Dance! Cultivating Passionate Employees

There had always been a passion in me for dancing, but country western and line dancing weren’t exactly what I had in mind. I appreciate country music; it just was never at the top of my list. Going out dancing with friends generally included hitting trendier, metropolitan destinations. That is, until a really good friend extended a last minute invitation to meet her at what turned out to be a popular new country western hot spot.

Unemployment Part II: Disciplinary Action

It is difficult in these economic times to avoid talk on the television and radio of the financial crisis we are in or the seemingly hopeless state of the economy. Likewise, unless you are only tuning into the Disney Channel, it is hard to miss the topic of unemployment and how its effects are playing a part in the world today. Now, I recognize that flipping the channel to a show about a teenage alien can be a much-needed reprieve, but only with knowledge can you really find peace.
