Get to Know Sky from Celebrity Staff Team Des Moines

Sky Wing is one of the newest members to the Celebrity Staff Des Moines team. He is an Account Manager who specializes in building relationships with businesses to help them with their hiring needs. He sat down with one of his team members, Kate Trimble, and answered a few questions about his transition to the team. Read on to find out more about Sky, his excitement about opportunities in Des Moines, his observations about the 2018 job market, and one of his biggest passions in life.

  1. What did you do before you were an Account Manager for Celebrity Staff Des Moines?

I worked in Telecommunications (I know, riveting)! The company was a broker of sorts in the communication world where they would work with other companies nationwide to handle their communication needs. So instead of the company going directly to CenturyLink, Windstream, or Mediacom (just to name a few), they’d reach out to my previous employer to work directly with the carriers on their behalf. I started right out of high school as a TPC I (Technical Project Coordinator) and consistently moved up to TPC II, TPC III, Project Manager, and then Account Manager which included maintaining and upselling existing clients. It set a solid foundation for my current role.

  1. If you could have any superhero power, which would you like to possess (flight, laser vision, time manipulation, super strength, etc.) and why?

I would have to say teleporting! I have a 45-50 minute commute every morning which I could shorten down to a second, but I also think it would just be fun to travel around to different areas instantly. Teleport home, pick up Amy (Sky’s significant other), and teleport to Paris for dinner. Or I would love to teleport to my favorite place – Negril, Jamaica – for the weekend! Plus I would save a ton on gas and vehicle maintenance!

  1. What is something you are passionate about?

I love that you asked this question! I am definitely passionate about anti-bullying. I constantly had to move when I was younger, pretty much a different school every year. When lunch or recess started I would see the kids who were alone and figured if they were alone I would go over to them and make friends with them (always seemed the easiest way to start making friends). This strategy worked as they turned out to be really great people and good friends. I found that oftentimes they were alone because they were different and were victims of bullying. I found myself taking a stand and sticking up for them, because from a young age I was taught to treat people how you want to be treated. When I would end up moving again, my parents would get my friend’s parents info so we could stay in touch. Unfortunately I have had those calls or found out that due to bullying they died by suicide. So each day I have the mindset that no matter what I’m going through to treat everyone the way you want to be treated. Even as an adult I stay mindful of watching out for signs of bullying and I am a huge advocate for mental health awareness.

  1. What makes you excited about the Des Moines job market?

Well, working in the telecom world, especially going to see the carrier facilities and customer locations, you really get to see how large some of the companies are and the amount of work they are doing any given day! There is so much opportunity, such as call centers, where our team could be a PERFECT business partner. Also, Des Moines and surrounding areas such as Waukee, Ankeny, and Clive are growing like crazy! So it is an exciting time to be a part of the community with the team.

  1. If you could give any employer advice for the 2018 market, what would it be?

Honestly my advice would be to take care of your employees. Show them you care! If the employee feels like they are liked, welcomed, and valued they look forward to going to work and will take pride in their work. It protects your investment; after all they are providing services to your clients. Happy employees equal happy customers which equals happy company.
