If you’re feeling out of control in your life, you’re not alone. We’re all very busy and have to balance our jobs, school, and life in general. Since starting my job at Celebrity Staff, I’ve learned a lot about how to prioritize and stay organized. These things have helped me in my work life as well as my personal life, which is absolutely crazy right now. Currently, I’m in the midst of buying a house, planning a wedding, moving into said house, and lining up someone to take over the lease of my current apartment. Whew! Just typing that was exhausting.
Now, we all have things that keep us busy in our personal life, but how do we help balance that with our work life? You might need to stay organized while applying/interviewing for jobs, or staying sane while balancing kids’ schedules and your work schedule! Either way, I have two simple suggestions that can be used for both personal life and work life. I guarantee you’ve heard them before but they’re too good not to repeat and they’ve helped me in my current situation!
- Have a daily to-do list. Celebrity Staff has implemented this with all of the employees of the branch. We have a printed template to use to organize our day in 15-minute increments. This helps me immensely throughout the workday to stay on task and not get caught up in too many different things at once. It’s also a good way to look back and see what you accomplished for the day. This same concept can be used in your personal life. Keep a planner or make your own template. Don’t try to keep everything straight in your head or you’ll go crazy! If you are a visual person like me, there are some good designs/templates that you can find on Pinterest.
- Write it down. Do you ever think to yourself, “Oh I need to call so and so” or “I need to remember to do this,” but constantly keep forgetting? Whether it’s on your phone or in your planner, write it down! Have a mental list of things to do once you get home from work? Write them down. And if you want to go a step further, list them in the order you’re going to do them. How’s that for organization? This is harder to do than you think. It requires you to stop what you’re doing and take the extra seconds to actually put it in writing – we all have that extra time! But mentally sometimes we tell ourselves that we don’t. Designate a certain notebook to keep all of this important information in if you don’t like the phone or planner idea. I think we try to tell ourselves we will remember everything (at least I do). And in reality, we’re human beings bound to mess up and forget.
Like I said, I know you’ve heard this before but I hope it serves as a good reminder for you today. And maybe it will help your busy day seem a little less intimidating! It will help you feel more organized, more accomplished at the end of the day, and gain a little more control over your life!
