Omaha job market good for economy but makes for tight labor pool

Omaha has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation which is good for the local economy but also makes it difficult to secure top talent in a tight labor market. Eric Beck, sales manager at Celebrity Staff, said that entry-level office-clerical and support staff positions are difficult to fill because as new software becomes available, there’s a shortage of individuals with the necessary skills. Customer service is also hurting at this time of year when stores ramping up their seasonal staff drain many job seekers out of the availability pool. The biggest upward trend has been firms hiring HR staff, from generalist to HR manager level – the generalists because the employment market is so low firms need individuals who can recruit candidates and managers because employees are aging out of the market. “I’ve probably seen more HR openings in the past 60 to 90 days than I used to see in six months,” Beck said.
